October 6 , 2019

With all the responsibilities in our everyday routine, it may be challenging to find time for nature. Studies have shown that spending time in nature and doing nature-based activities can alleviate stress, uplift moods and even help to relieve physical ailments. Whether it is taking a RV camper vacation or getting your hands in the soil for gardening, there are a variety of simple ways to bring nature back into your life.

1. Start an indoor or outdoor herb garden

Herbs grow fairly easily in many different climates. This is especially true if you plan to start an indoor herb garden. Many herbs are easier to grow from seed to full plant than other types of plants. You will watch the beauty of nature bloom right inside your home or backyard.

2. Join a nature society

Many towns and cities have nature societies. Nature societies are a great way to learn about the plants and animals indigenous to the area. Some nature societies even organize field trips for you and other members to see the sights and wildlife up close and personal.

3. Take a day trip to nature destinations in the area

Research places in your area with interesting natural formations. Find hiking trails on a mountain, walk through a forest, swim in a nearby ocean, go horseback riding, take kayaks down a river or go tubing down a river. There are many activities possible in nature that can meet your level of skill or preference.

4. Rent a RV camper for your next vacation

If you are not in the market to purchase an RV camper, you can always rent one. RV campers are great investments if you plan to take many trips to nature destinations. Make your next vacation a RV camping adventure. Pack the proper essentials to experience the comforts of home while immersed in nature.

5. Go Fishing

With the right tools and the right location, you can have a relaxing fishing day trip by yourself or with a group. Fishing requires patience and spending time in nature. Even if you don’t catch anything, you will have a good time on a boat or along the shore waiting for the fish to bite.

6. Bird watching

Bird watching isn’t for everyone. Those that enjoy bird watching really love to delve into nature. It is never too late to give it a try. A good pair of binoculars and a bird identification book for your area go a long way. It is like a scavenger hunt for your eyes. Feel free to record in a notebook the birds you spot in the treetops or along the water.

7. Find a natural hot springs to soak in

Not every town has one, but if you have a natural hot springs you can get to, definitely go for it! Natural hot springs are essentially jacuzzi-like pools of water caused by geothermally heated groundwater. Some hot springs are too hot to soak in, so remember to do your research! Many hot springs can contain natural minerals that are good for your health.

8. Learn new recipes using locally grown produce

Some studies suggest produce grown in the same area you reside is beneficial to your health. The same way a tree planted in a specific region adapts to the climate and the nutrients in the soil, your body can adapt to the locally grown fruits and vegetables in the area. Head to a local farmers market to gather produce for the season. Learn new recipes to make locally grown meals from.

9. Bike ride to places you would normally drive to

Spending time outdoors in nice weather can be difficult if you mostly work indoors. If your job is close enough, take a bike ride instead of driving to and from work. If going to work on a bike seems unlikely, ride your bike to other places where you would normally drive your vehicle.

10. Apple, Strawberry or Blueberry Picking

During specific times of the year, farms allow you and your families to pick fresh fruits directly from the bushes and trees. Not only do you get to leave home with handpicked fresh fruit, but you get to try juicy samples along the way!

Making time in our busy lives for nature is easier to accomplish if you find a way you enjoy. The first step is knowing you want nature incorporated into your life on some level.  Whether it be taking small steps each day or planning big vacations with nature as your focal point, you can and will bring nature back into your life!
